Cedar Point Federal Credit Union is excited to be the presenting sponsor of the Solomons Dragon Boat Festival this year. As a credit union open to the Southern Maryland community, we are always looking for ways to support and boost that community.
When CEO Charles Roach learned that the festival supported inclusive programs for people with developmental differences, he jumped on the opportunity to support the event. “It’s a great cause,” said Roach. “And it helps us reach out to members of our community who might not know what we’re all about.”
Cedar Point Federal Credit Union serves people who live, work, worship, go to school and do business in St. Mary’s, Calvert and Charles counties. “We want people in Calvert County to know that we’re here for them,” said Kristin Kauffman, who is in charge of Cedar Point’s Digital Marketing. “There’s no better way to reach the community than by supporting local events and organizations.”
“Lots of people don’t know that our Credit Union can do everything that a large bank can do,” Kauffman continues. “You want online banking? We’ve got that. You want to buy a new home or dream car? We can help with that, too.” Kauffman goes on to explain that credit unions are member-owned and not-for-profit. “So any profit the credit union makes goes back to the members in the form of better rates and dividends.”

Fire Breathing Dragon (update)
July 13, 2017
Our dragon is growing and we have given him a name!
Our dragon's name is "DD". Which stands for Developmental Differences. His name reminds us why we have our Dragon Boat Festival: to produce inclusive programs for people with developmental differences in Calvert and St. Mary's counties. Proceeds from the festival will provide funding for these programs through the organizing efforts of SMCR, Inc.
SMCR is a nonprofit 501(c )(3) organization
"DD The Dragon" is now more than 30feet long! When you stop at the Pier on the weekend while we are painting, your children may have the opportunity to join in and paint one of "DD's" scales to help him grow even bigger!
While you're at the The Pier Restaurant be sure to stop in for a cool drink & some great food!

Fire Breathing Dragon Lands at Solomons Pier Restaurant!
The Pier Restaurant announced that a Giant Fire-Breathing Dragon landed on their upper deck Friday afternoon, June 16, 2017.
It was reported that the dragon has taken up residence in hopes to get the best view of the Dragon Boat Races which will be held during the Dragon Boat Festival along the Patuxent River.
The dragon idea came from Msgr. Michael Wilson, a board member of SMCR, Inc. SMCR is a nonprofit 501(c )(3) organization, with the mission of producing programs for people with developmental differences, in Calvert and St. Mary’s counties. Proceeds from the festival will provide funding for SMCR's programs.
Our thanks to Daniel Oster for designing, cutting out and painting the dragon's head and to The Pier Restaurant for allowing our dragon to "hang out" until race day!
The Solomons Island Dragon Boat Festival is a free, family-friendly event.
August 18 - Opening Ceremony with a Blessing of the Boats
