Solomons Island Dragon Boat Festival

The Opening Ceremony will be held on August 18, 2017.  Races will be held on August 19, 2017 and are expected to draw a large crowd.  It is estimated that last year’s inaugural festival drew over 4000 spectators and this year we expect many more.


Gather your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, or just the random person you have been wanting to meet and form a team for this year’s races.  Each boat will hold 16 paddlers and one drummer.

Minimum age for paddlers is 12 years with signed permission by a parent/legal guardian.


The cost to enter a boat in the race is $2000. (A popular option is to divide the cost of this registration fee among your team members). If you would like to sign up as a single paddler the fee is $120, and you will be assigned to a team.


The boat, steer-person, life jackets, and necessary training are provided.  Teams must only provide their entry fees and team members. Water safety staff will be on site throughout practice sessions and race day.


The only required time commitments for this race are a few hours of practice time on an evening during the week prior to the races and race day.  All team members are invited to attend the Opening Ceremony on August 18.


Teams should decide on a "Team Theme" which would include team costumes and tent decorations.


Teams are encouraged to plan a simple fundraising activity to host at their tent during race day.


There is room for 33 teams in this year’s race and spaces are filling up fast.   To guarantee your spot for the 2017 Festival, a $500 deposit is required.  The sooner you register your team and pay the deposit, the sooner you can begin to raise your funds and challenge your friends to enter.


Once we receive your deposit, a packet of information will be sent to the team captain with detailed information about rules, payments, race logistics and other pertinent information.


-Initial team rosters should be compiled by June 30.

-Completed rosters and final payments for all teams must be received by July 31.

-Team member waivers are due by August 4.

-Deadlines may be extended under special circumstances. Please contact us at the email listed below with your request.


Failure to pay the full registration fees, provide complete team rosters and provide completed waivers by all team members by the deadlines will result in a forfeiture of all previously paid fees.
